  • Mason/Brennan Preseason Hype! Awards: 2018 Redskins Offseason Edition. Who’s got the hype! The Mason/Brennan Preseason Hype! Award has been given out unofficially by the fans for years to each preseason's most hyped players http://www.authenticswashingtonredskins.com/cheap-tress-way-jersey , but now we've made it official, and will bring it to a vote. This week's vote will cover the entire offseason leading up to Thursday’s game against the Patriots. Place your vote for who you feel has been the most hyped player up to this point, whether the hype is deserved or not.The Rules:1. Player must have been drafted late or signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Players that have only been on other teams practice squads that are signed by the team are also eligible.2. A player that has been on the team for several years is still eligible if most of that time has been spent on the practice squad, inactive, or with very limited productivity/timeHow have past Mason/Brennan winners done in thr NFL after receiving this glorious award? The Candidates:CB Danny JohnsonJohnson has been getting love from a lot of people since joining the Redskins as an UDFA this year. The most important love of all has come from Head Coach Jay Gruden who mentions him a lot during his pressers. Johnson has been making plays throughout camp, and is expected to shine in the preseason. Many people have him as a sleeper for the last spot in the secondary. His hype is on the rise.OLB Pete RobertsonPete Robinson as most fans still call him will make people remember his name in the preseason. Robinson is another player that gets official hype from his head coach, and from fellow players including his cousin Trent Williams. Robinson will push to have the team keep a 5th OLB this year.WR Maurice HarrisIs Harris still eligible for this award after being in 16 games for the Redskins over his two year career? Hell yes he is. 12 career catches and the best TD catch of the season last year hasn’t knocked him out of the Hype! awards just yet. Harris was an UDFA two years ago and was cut before last season started. He wasn’t activated until November, but his believers have faith that he should be getting a lot more playing time. He has had a phenomenal camp, could this be his year to actually do something consistently?CB Adonis AlexanderSupplemental 6th round draft picks have ZERO chance of being cut this year, or so I have been told. Alexander was a hyped player last year, but took a fall and the Skins were able to scoop him up for the low, low price of a 2019 6th round pick. He has all the physical tools to make it http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jonathan-allen-jersey , and that’s what people are investing their hype bucks in. ILB Shaun Dion HamiltonAnother Bama to add to the collection. SDH has been getting rave reviews from coaches and is already getting labeled a late-round steal. He's a smart player who had major injuries in college end his last two seasons. He's gonna shine in preseason if he stays healthy.S Quin BlandingHe should have been drafted higher...or at all! Blanding is another player Redskins fans have hyped up as a potential steal at safety, a position fans and the team have needed an answer at for years. He was one of the highlights of a decent UDFA class that people are hoping can stick around this year.ILB Josh Harvey-ClemonsWhat is more important than Head Coach hype? Getting the Ken Meringolo hype seal of approval! JHC has been a certified hype machine in camp and is the first one in at ILB when either starter isn’t available. Another physical hype player who has some things the Redskins defense have been missing. And those Kam Chancellor draft comparisons...WR Cam SimsWR? check. 6’5”? check. Making plays in camp in drills designed for the receiver to have an advantage? check. We've have all the ingredients for a presesson hype monster here.S Kenny LadlerCan a former CFL star make it on the Redskins, or will he be heading north after the roster cuts next month. Ladler has a lot of the beat guys penciling his name in as a sleeper candidate to make the team, and has been all over the field in training camp.WR Trey QuinnTrey Quinn was insulted when he heard he was nominated for this award, and immediately gave me an award for being an idiot(this is proudly displayed in my living room next to my journalism degree from Yuengling University). Mr. Irrelevant is the favorite son of fans and coaches alike. He has been called a lock to make the roster by 97% of the world, and the other 3% are on the list. This hype has broken every measuring device we have at Hogs Haven. There's a video a couple of years old floating around the internet that shows Patrick Mahomes, then the quarterback at Texas Tech, dropping to his knees and flinging a football 65 yards on a dare. That answered any questions about his arm strength. What wasn't answered during all those years with the Red Raiders was whether that rocket arm could deliver the ball consistently on point.Yes, Mahomes threw far fewer interceptions than most folks recall, especially given the number of pass plays Texas Tech calls each game, but most cynics figured he would toss about as many picks as touchdown passes once he arrived in the NFL.He answered that question last week against the Chargers, when he threw for 256 yards and four TDs without an interception in his first game as the Chiefs' full-time starting quarterback."He did a nice job http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-da_ron-payne-jersey , and now you have to back it up," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday. "He understands that. He's wired that way. Plenty of room to improve and he knows it. He's working at it."Such as sliding when he's under pressure, rather than taking a big hit. Mahomes absorbed far too many of those against the Chargers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers' ferocious defense no doubt is licking its chops at the thought of delivering another crunching blow on Sunday. But when it comes to throwing passes into double coverage, or taking a gamble that results in a costly turnover, at least for one week Mahomes was perfect. And it's hard to get much better than perfect."Good and bad, you lean from both of those. But he made some nice decisions," Reid said. "There's some things he can go back and look at and say, 'I should have gone there.' That's in the memory bank and he's building that file. I thought he did a good job of not throwing it to them, but there are some things he could do better against certain looks."Reid wouldn't go into details, of course, lest he gives the Steelers any unnecessary advantage. But whether it was a quick-flip pass to Tyreek Hill that resulted in a long touchdown http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-dustin-hopkins-jersey , or a touch throw down the sideline to Anthony Sherman for another score, Mahomes never put the ball in too much danger.More than all those throws he made, it was the throws he didn't make in the 38-28 victory that helped Mahomes win this season's first AFC offensive player of the week award."It helped that I had a lot of guys that played well for us in the offense," Mahomes said. "Tyreek had a great game, the offensive line played really well. I'm glad I got the honor, but it was kind of an offensive unit honor."It's hard to gauge the growth in Mahomes from last year to this year, given how little he played as a rookie. But offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz said it's evident in all aspects of his game, whether it was the way Mahomes approached offseason workouts or the way he operates in the classroom."There's definitely a comfortability with everything," Schwartz said. "There's been a huge progression from him and it's been cool to see."Just as Reid said, though, now Mahomes needs to back up his Week 1 performance. The Steelers present a much more complex test for Mahomes with a variety of disguised blitzes that have frustrated Chiefs quarterbacks for years.Even the cerebral Alex Smith, the consummate game-manager quarterback http://www.redskinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-morgan-moses-jersey , struggled to have much success against Pittsburgh during his years in Kansas City."I feel like I get better and better with blitz protections every week. It helps that we have good game plans," Mahomes said. "I know Pittsburgh does a ton of that stuff, that's kind of their thing, but we've played them a lot the last few years, so we kind of know what to expect."Notes: Eric Berry remained out of practice Wednesday. The team had described his injury as a heel issue in training camp, but Reid clarified that it is Berry's Achilles tendon causing issues. The star safety tore his Achilles tendon last season. "Just being cautious with it," Reid said. "We have full trust in him. He's always very honest with us. We want him there for the long haul. We're trying to make sure everything is right there." ... LB Ben Niemann (hamstring) also did not practice Wednesday. Wholesale NFL Jerseys
